Upcoming Week List

This is where you will find the weekly list of participation slots!

Please be prepared to work. You must sign in with Joanne Ramire before starting your assignment so that you get credit for working.

As per the RH Jr Royal Comets rules, if you do not fulfill your parent participation for the week you are assigned, your child will sit the current or following week's game.

Parent Participation Information

The RH Jr Royal Comets strive to provide a quality program for all participants. The success of the organization is directly linked to the dedication of the individuals involved. All members of the Board of Directors and Coaching staff are volunteers. While their time and commitment is essential they cannot succeed alone.

Participation in our program may be different than other youth sports activities your child has joined in that it requires a high level of commitment from both parents and participants. On a typical “home” game day it requires the assistance of nearly 100 additional helpers to run everything smoothly. Therefore, we require that each family commit to provide 8 hours of their time throughout the season (you are welcome to do more if you can).

At equipment hand-out you will be asked to sign up for open positions. The types of descriptions are listed below. The master schedule will be available throughout the season and you will receive confirmation of your times before the season starts. If a conflict arises please contact the parent participation coordinator or your team parent as soon as possible to arrange coverage as well as rescheduling. Most duties are broken down into 2 hour segments so each family will likely have responsibilities at 3 to 4 individual games.

**Please note that if a parent/guardian fails to complete the required participation duties it may result in the temporary suspension of their child’s participation in the program. We want to avoid this as much as possible as it affects the entire team when a player is absent and we want everyone to participate as much as possible.

VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Game Day Duties

FIELD POSITIONS:

Monitor (10 - Plays) – Two (2) monitors are REQUIRED at every game (HOME AND AWAY A, B, C).  Monitors must report to the coordinator 15 minutes prior to the start of each game.  Each football player’s participation is monitored and recorded to assure that all team members play a minimum of 5 plays per half of each game. You use a tracking sheet to keep it simple, and work at the sideline with a parent from the opposing team. One monitor is required for each side of the field.

Chain Gang – 3 per Home game - Each ref has slightly different procedures, so they will teach the chain gang prior to the start of each game.  Positions include down marker, chains and hash marker.  Using the down markers and chains, you are on the field keeping track of the downs and the field position of the ball during the downs.

Clock Operator -  Home games - Coordinates the time clock with the officials on the field.  Watches game closely, watches officials for directions, out of bounds plays, time outs, scores, etc. First time clock handlers must report early to receive training on the use of the clock.

Clock Spotter - Home games – Assists the clock handler to coordinate the time clock with the officials on the field.  Watches game closely, watches officials for directions, out of bounds plays, time outs, scores, etc. First time clock spotters must report early to receive training on the use of the clock.

Announcer – announces the game from the audio platform

Announcer Spotter – assists the announcer

Concession & Merchandise  – Duties vary, but a typical shift would be:

  • 3-5 people at the counter area filling various jobs such as hot food server, packaged food server, cashier, etc. *Also to set up display and sell R-H merchandise

50/50 – Field Check – two people work together per game to sell 50/50 tickets each game (C, A, B). This is a great source for extra income for the organization and should be taken seriously. You will be expected to sell tickets throughout the first half of the game and then turn in monies and tickets to the fundraising director for handling and drawing of winner at halftime. Once handed in, the ticket sellers are asked to do inspection of the field for trash, etc. and pick up as needed (plastic gloves and garbage bags are available from concession area).

Field Set Up – home games

  • Set Up – Arrive 2 hours before game time. Stay until 1st game shift arrives. Help unload food and supplies and get ready for the day: Make coffee, start grill, begin cooking, fill ice tubs, etc. Change will be supplied by the Board treasurer.

Field Tear Down
